Originating from a Master's thesis of the same title, this artistic research examines the concept of "Decaf Images." Displayed as a sort of mood board, the resulting pieces offer a social critique of how idealized Mediterranean vernacular imagery is deployed in escapist online aesthetics to sanitize the complex contemporary realities of our region.
As part of the installation, the artist's book "Decaf Mediterranean" compiles a catalog of images mapping the visual culture of a "decaf" Mediterranean. Drawing from social media, modern paintings, vintage postcards, archival photographs, and film stills, the publication interrogates how this sanitized aesthetic is constructed.
Presented as part of the group exhibition organized by alumni of the Master's Degree in Design for Critical Futures at Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering.
